A Perfect Day 2009

Paul Mitchell the School Normal invited Home Sweet Home Ministries to experience an afternoon of holiday cheer and pampering. Future Professionals provided facials, hair cuts and styles and manicures. There was also a clothing drive for the women to shop! This marks the second year PMTS Normal hosted 'A Perfect Day' and it was even better than the first. One Future Professional and her husband were so gracious to donate a delicious catered lunch to all of the women.

The culture of Paul Mitchell Schools is simple- we love to give back and make people feel good. 'A Perfect Day' did just this for women who might not have had the opportunity otherwise to indulge in an afternoon of relaxation. Our future professionals are talented individuals who have been given a gift of making others feel good about themselves. We experienced magic this past Wednesday afternoon and we can't wait to do it again!

My Testimonial

Ladies and gentlemen, my time at the school has come to its close. The last of the original website team creators and writers has left the building for the last time as a future professional. The search for a new writer is ongoing, and I am certain someone will take up the torch; someone with a far better knack for these things than I have. But I wanted to leave behind me some little token of appreciation for this wonderful school, and where better than here; a literary joint effort begun with one of my greatest mentors about the greatest academic institution I have ever been a part of.

One of the first thoughts a lot of people have upon entering our school is the scale of it; the wide open floor freckled with stations, bright attentive color schemes, and a service desk coordinator you can’t help but smile at. Next the sounds and smells. Enticing hair products are never far away. And just sitting in the waiting area while the salon is in full swing is a sensory symphony of blow dryers, chit chat, walking tours, and beauty advice.

But what we the studious future professionals and respect-inspiring learning leaders see on closer inspection of the school…is a sense of family. The beauty industry is moving in that we no longer come to get our hair done exclusively out of necessity, but so too out of luxury. What could be more luxurious than spending a leisurely hour of pampering and decadence in the hands of the finest up-and-coming rockstars of the beauty industry? I have seen more happiness and satisfaction on the faces of clients and stylists here than I have anywhere else outside our doors. Imagine all that positive energy walking home at the end of a service or school day…

I believe in the magic of Paul Mitchell the School Normal. I was a convert two seconds after walking in, touring the school for the first time. I believed when I left…and I believe now.
So, for the last time, on this, my final proposal to everyone considering coming in to the school, I would like to say…what are you waiting for? : ) Make that call, take that tour…

And start believing.

It's Good to Update

Ohhh okay, I'm going to level with you; trying to type up all that has happened to our school the past few weeks would tie up a lot of time and bandwidth for all involved. But as pictures speak a thousand words themselves, I will just stick with them for the time being. But hey, don't take my photos at their words. You are just going to have to come in and experience this visual awe for yourself. But you already knew you wanted to do that :) Here, let me help you...

When Oh When Will Winn Come? Well...

Ladies and gentlemen, I have perhaps the most exciting news for you, you would jump me and call me a liar. But, I promise you, this is the honest truth; Winn Claybaugh, co-founder and co-owner of the Paul Mitchell schools division, is coming to Normal! Yes, you read me correctly. The man, the marvel, and the most wonderful human being will be holding a motivational seminar at Paul Mitchell the School Normal on August 5th, this upcoming Wednesday.

As a brief introduction to and overview of this fantastic humanitarian individual, I would have you think of every nice, kind, and warming idea we have come to associate with the Paul Mitchell family. I can safely guarantee that this man has been of paramount influence to each and every one of those great experiences. He has helped to create a culture so fundamentally good-willed that simply by embracing his guidelines for a good life, you will see happy returns quicker than you would have thought possible. And, for my part, I would say this of him; he is the kind of man whose heart is not simply content to being worn on his sleeve. It has to glow :)

So, with that, I invite you, in no lesser phrase, to be a part of that warm glow. His words speak not only to hairdressers and ambitious business owners, but to every individual that aspires in life. Along with visiting our school throughout the day, he will be speaking in the evening to those who attend, a number which we firmly hope will far surpass our estimates. His seminar will run from 7 to 9 pm. on Wednesday, one week from tonight, at Paul Mitchell the School Normal; 1503 College Avenue, Suite 1.

Be nice, and be there...or else!

Future Professionals Poised to Take Over the World

The phrase long overdue comes to mind thinking about this post. First promises first; we collected well over 7,000 dollars during our Fun-raising campaign this year, which is just fantastic. It's a slow but steady process, getting to 7 K by ones and fives predominantly, but it was worth every cent of effort. So, kudos to....well, us :) And our warmest thanks to those who contributed, without whom our sum-total would be considerably less impressive.

So, the beat goes on for the Future Professionals and Learning Leaders at Paul Mitchell the School Normal. A very belated congratulations to all those who found a home on the Phase Two program, and their most recent inductee, Ramie. I am very pleased to announce the arrival of our new Core students, all of whom will get to enjoy the pleasurable company of our dear friend Abby for the next 6 weeks, and I'm sure you will all join me in wishing the best of times to them here in this magical place.

In the coming week, the school will have a mix of a Country and Farmer's Market Day. Guaranteed if you aren't aware of it before you come in, just look for Brooke's boots to get the hint. The expected overwhelming amount of plaid will be a dead giveaway as well :) Also on the agenda this week is another round of teacher certifications; believe me, I make no overstatement when I say we could forego the charade of the certification process. We all have that much faith in our leaders here.

Still, if you don't quite believe me, come in and see the outcome of their tireless efforts in the fantastic services we provide on a daily basis here at Paul Mitchell the School Normal. For the unacquainted, the number for the school is 309-862-3400. Book us now, thank us later :) Have a great week, everyone!

Our fundraising season has come to a close, and I think I speak for us all at PMTS Normal when I say we could not be happier with the final total. Sadly, I cannot at this time give an accurate amount that we raised in total, but do please be sure to keep an eye out for it in the next post.

It has been a little while since our last, now that I mention it, so it's high time to fill everyone in on what has been keeping us busy in the time between. Our school had a wonderful Cinco de Mayo, with the many tasty recipes kindly brought in. All the red, white, and green gave a lovely festive feel to the start of the week. We have seen Tara, Carly, Jenn, and Keli all graduate recently. If you have gotten to know them as we have, you too could easily see they have nothing but bright futures ahead of them, and we are glad to have had the time with them that we did. They will make the world a more beautiful place, I guarantee :)

And with their leaving, the Phase Two doors have opened to our largest class. From one future professional sorely hoping to be in those shoes to those who made it, you have my deepest congratulations. You set our standards so very high, and in great form; you make us aspire to climb, and I thank you for that.

And that should bring us up to present. So, I strongly suggest all those interested to come in and let our new Phase Two work their magic. You'll believe in the end :) Have a lovely rest of the week, and look back soon for updates to come.
